║ The SAOwner (previous called the SAO Genie) is an i2c ║▐
║ interposer specifically designed to man-in-the-middle ║▐
║ serial communication between an electronic badge and an ║▐
║ add-on through the Shitty Add-on (SAO) port. ║▐

║ The SAO Genie was inspired by the TPM Genie, specially ║▐
║ crafted for attacking Shitty Add-ons at DEF CON 26. The SAO ║▐
║ Genie was designed as a tool for electronic badge and ║▐
║ add-on hacking, since it provides an easier interface for ║▐
║ sniffing and manipulating data on the serial bus between a ║▐
║ badge and targeted add-on. As electronic badges are being ║▐
║ used more frequently in conference hacking challenges, the ║▐
║ SAO Genie is geared to make it easier to dig into ║▐
║ inter-badge/add-on communications. ║▐

║ ║▐
║ The SAO Genie works by sitting between an electronic badge ║▐
║ and a targeted add-on as a man-in-the-middle kind of way. ║▐
║ The SAO Genie is able to do this by acting as a slave to ║▐
║ the conference badge, pretending to be the targeted add-on ║▐
║ (using the same i2c address), while also playing the role ║▐
║ of master to the targeted add-on (forwarding and possibly ║▐
║ manipulating) serial data packets between the badge and ║▐
║ target add-on. The SAO Genie has both a 2x2 male header for ║▐
║ plugging into a conference badge, and a 2x2 female header ║▐
║ for providing a connector for the targeted add-on to ║▐
║ connect to. ║▐
║ ║▐
║ Support for SAO Genie ended with passthrough, monitor, and ║▐
║ redirect modes being functional. Additional interposer ║▐
║ modes are possible, and implemented on SAOwner, they just ║▐
║ haven't been backported to the SAO Genie firmware at this ║▐
║ time. ║▐
║ ║▐
║ SAOwner ║▐
║ ║▐
║ The SAOwner is the second version of the badge interposer ║▐
║ tool. The SAOwner was designed to support the newest SAO ║▐
║ standard, v1.69bis, which adds two additional pins for ║▐
║ either GPIO control or USART. The SAOwner picks up where ║▐
║ SAO Genie development left off by adding a modify mode, ║▐
║ which adds the ability to modify i2c messages from badge to ║▐
║ add-on and/or add-on to badge. Additionally, more LEDs were ║▐
║ added to better convey status, a USB header was added for ║▐
║ easier programming and serial interface, and the PCB shape ║▐
║ was changed to better match the new project name. ║▐
